Kid in this Facebook ad is upset at getting a Buick Estate Wagon. Downright un grateful. I’d be thrilled if this had been my first vehicle, V8, RWD, super comfortable, enough room for friends, and stylish design. What’s not to love? #kidsthesedays

My experience as a teenager was that we were all just happy with the independence of having cars, and no one was especially concerned about having a “cool” car. A few people had newer cars (mostly because their parents were concerned about their safety) , most people had standard hand-me-downs, a few had old beaters, and they were all fine. One guy had an RX-7, but only because his dad died and left it too him, which isn’t really a great deal.
Also I would consider the wagon a cool car (look at that sunroof!) but I’ll admit my tastes are probably not a direct overlap with kids two decades my junior.

I was thrilled to get the keys to our 94 Plymouth Voyager (in 2002). You could throw 6-10 of your friends in there and go anywhere you wanted.

I’d be thrilled if I got one today even

No parent would ever give their teen
son a Roadmaster Wagon for their first car. For... obvious reasons.

Agreed; just look at Chevy.

“independence” today is ignoring everyone while staring at their phones with AirPods in their ears.

Seriously - I specifically sought out a Fleetwood from that era was I was ca. 20 years old, even then, they were kind of hard to find. Fantastic cars.

This commercial made me stabby when I saw it.
“yes, why should your 17-year-old infant have to deal with a scary flat tire when he can call someone instead?”

Dat wood doe.

As a parent of a teenage boy who has a girlfriend, no kidding. I know what I was like when I was his age, no way I’m giving him a hotel room on wheels.

Many parents recognize their teen sons have zero chance of having sex anywhere, let along in a car.

On the contrary--- yeah never mind

Electric scooter maybe.
Wait, yes, you're right, hipsters are doing mopeds now.

I uh actually meant it’d be horribly unsafe in a crash and very expensive to keep gassed up
Get your mind out of the gutter

My first car was mom’s hand-me-down Dasher wagon, but the back was full of speakers so there was little chance of having sex in there. My sister got an ancient Accord hatchback. Her son’s first car? A brand new BMW X2 that he wrecked on the way home from the dealership...

Ah! I remember your tales of that... bonehead. Didn’t he get it replaced with another brand new bimmer?

After months and months of repairs, including a brand-new engine (!) and a rental car (that a 16-year old with a shit driving record shouldn’t be driving), I believe that he finally has his original X2 back. Knowing my BIL it’s probably a lease, so watch the fuck out if you go to buy a CPO X2 in a few years...

Excuse me, kind sir, but I would like to tell you that my high school is having their 50th anniversary homecoming this weekend, and K. Taylor is inviting all of the former band members back for a special “alumni band” performance. There will be people that you remember.
I’m not saying that you should go, but it would be entertaining because the alums are sure to be turrble. I’ll be in Houston for the event.

As someone who did things in a Nissan Pulsar NX, the car doesn’t matter, you get it in when and where you can.

I’ll be playing with the ASO that night. Might be fun, though.

ya know the likelihood of me buying any kind of X2 any time are kind of low but yeah thanks for the heads up

hell, I didn’t. being a teenage guy with a car doesn’t automatically make you attractive or desirable.
